Improving my custom home row arrow keys and adding my Mac "Hyper" key

I've had it set up so I can use my arrow keys on my home row by holding Caps Lock and using KeyRemap4MacBook for a while now, and love it, however there were a few things I wanted to improve. In order for it to work, it was telling the system that holding caps lock is like holding control, then you hit I to go up, J to go right, etc. The problem was that I couldn't use keyboard shortcuts that included arrow keys and control. So this setup maps the Caps Lock over to the right control (not the left one), so that the left control will be used like I'd like. Sweet! I even made a Vim version for the OMBUers and any others on the Vim camp. And there's a few awesome extras I've got: a better system wide keyboard shortcut modifier, and an easier cancel. Read on!

Wanting PDF Annotation & Bookmarking in Evernote or Dropbox iOS Apps

Photo:

The new PDF views in the iOS apps for Dropbox & Evernote both use PSPDFkit, which supports annotations & bookmarks, but that hasn't been implemented in either app. Support in that department would be huge to me as I'm a PDF reading, highlight loving, multi-device using front end web developer who often looks back on his references. I've used GoodReader to work with highlights and annotations, but it's UI & usability issues get in the way for me. Crossing my fingers that this is in the pipeline for both apps. Oh, and Evernote: please do what Dropbox is doing with the landscape view showing full width as that's the best way to read PDFs on an iPhone IMHO.

Kicking off the "My Awesome Mac Setup" page

I decided to write the obligatory "My Awesome Mac Setup" blog post detailing the software, hardware, and desk setup I'm currently using and about how awesome it is and how it all makes performing tasks at super-human speeds so much easier etc etc, but then I started thinking about how quickly it'd be outdated. How often is your software & toolkit setup changing? Mine is constantly being tweaked and is never done. So what do you do then? Write a blog post detailing what you new utility you got into to and mentioning what "killer app" fell short of expectations? Ugh... sounds tedious. My approach: keeping a single, dedicated page going of my current Mac setup. Kind of like a personal wiki page I guess. I kicked it off thoroughly and with a good amount of info, so go check my awesome mac setup page out!

I'm presenting Sublime Text & Emmet to the Front End Drupal group in Portland

This Thursday at the Portland Front End Drupal meet up, I'll be presenting on how to use Sublime Text & Emmet to greatly speed up the workflow of front end web development. Zen Coding was rebranded as Emmet recently and has some good momentum in its development. I personally have used it in my CSS & HTML creation workflow for about 3 years and can't imagine not having it. I've been using Sublime Text for about a year and a half and it too is something I couldn't develop without. I'll go over fundamentals of that app and bring up some of my favorite packages I use to extend the app's functionality. It should be an awesome time! The Drupal Front End Meet up happens this Thursday the 21st of February, 2013 (and every third Thursday) at the Funny Monkey offices on 2410 East Burnside at 6pm.
